Facebook Summer Academy Externs will have the opportunity to learn about the day-to-day operations of one of the world’s leading social media networks by being part of a dynamic workforce. Externs will work closely with Facebook Mentors in their respective capacities to gain real-world work experience and on-the-job skills that will help propel them into successful careers. Our goal is to inspire and motivate young people to achieve economic success, stability, and mobility through skills development and early career exploration in the tech industry.
Now in its sixth year, the Facebook Summer Academy program has provided 81 high school externs with meaningful summer opportunities, and will serve 19 new externs during the summer of 2017.
The 2017 Facebook Summer Academy Internship will take place for six weeks from Monday, June 26, 2017 to Friday, August 4, 2017, for 30 hours per week. Externs will receive a $1,500 stipend upon completion of the six-week program and must commit to completing all of the program requirements. Externs will be matched with one of the following eight Facebook departments:
Finance Operations – In order to connect the world you have to spend money. Help the teams that spend Facebook’s money. From the team that helps find the right companies to partner with, negotiates with them and finally contract with them. To the supporting operational team that helps organize all the purchases, approvals and everything else needed to keep an eye on Facebook’s pocketbook. Projects may include market research or bench marketing. Also learning the rest of the purchase process and assisting in some projects which could involve diversity supplier on boarding as well as other types of market stratification.
HR-Diversity – The Diversity and Inclusion team at Facebook focuses on finding, growing, and keeping diverse employees. Types of projects for this team could include recruiting support, developing presentations and materials, support for our employee resource groups, support of our global office’s diversity initiatives and much, much more! The ideal intern for this team is someone who is flexible and likes to do a variety of work, has strong attention to detail, is creative and organized, and is interested in learning more about HR, Recruiting and Diversity work.
HR – Recruiting Programs – The Recruiting Programs Team builds management tools to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the recruiting organization at Facebook. For example, the customer relationship management (CRM) tool that is similar to SalesForce. The Recruiting Programs Team also creates events and experiences that supports Facebook’s mission and the company hiring goals. IT Service Desk – The IT Help Desk team at Facebook is responsible for providing awesome support and service for all types of computer and mobile device problems. We can fix anything from email issues to computer hardware problems, all while focusing on providing Facebook with fast, courteous IT support! When looking for interns, Help Desk seeks to find those that are really excited about technology, and are eager to learn all they can in a hands-on, fast paced atmosphere. Solving problems and finding solutions are the things we do best at the Help Desk, and we’re always looking for those with that same passion and sense of urgency!
Media Partnerships – The Media Partnerships Team works with public figures and media organizations across News, Sports, Entertainment, Non-Profits, Influencers, Publishers & more. We aim to connect people to stories that matter most, let publishers thrive on our platform, help creators build deeper relationships, and help creators adapt to immersive experiences. Interns will work on a variety of projects — such as how public figures use digital platforms to engage authentically with their fans. In addition, interns will be exposed to the foundational work that supports the world of media, getting to know data, product, & operations teams.
Information Security – The Information Security team (2 openings) at Facebook protects the security and privacy of over a billion people, monitors internal tools and external threats against company systems and infrastructure and designs scalable security solutions. The ideal intern is flexible and likes to do lots of different projects. Projects may include project management, event support, and Capture The Flag attendance & support. Hands on security training will be provided so that you learn about Facebook’s security work.
Facilities Operations – Facebook is a global company and Facilities Operations is responsible for making sure that all of our buildings are working every day and that Facebookers are able to get around campus efficiently for their meetings and events. As an intern on our team, you will be exposed to project management, events, transportation, reception and amenities. Types of projects for this team may include, but not limited to, supporting our events team, doing data collection and analysis for the transportation team , working in the Facebook bike shop, working with our various amenities partners (Retail Swag Shop, Pop-Up Shop, and Fitness Center), and being responsible for the planning and execution of the Facebook Academy Graduation. Join our team because we are the team that make things happen, without us Facebook would have a hard time functioning.
Communications – The Communications team helps tell Facebook’s story to the outside world, and works inside the company to keep Facebook’s culture strong. We work with media outlets and others outside the company to make sure they understand Facebook’s mission to make the world more open and connected and also to ensure they represent the company fairly and truthfully. We create content from blog posts to graphics and video, and build relationships both across Facebook’s product and business teams and with outside influencers. Interns will be exposed to a range of Facebook’s products and business, and work on various projects from content creation to media analysis and research.
